Buying a house is a big deal; it’s where your life unfolds, your kids grow up and memories are made. Finding the perfect home in a wonderful neighborhood (and at a price that falls in your budget!) is no small task, and who you choose to help you with that decision can spare you from hassles and headaches.
By working with a real estate agent, you are hiring a professional with expert knowledge of the current housing market, detailed information about properties for sale by every company, and fine-tuned negotiation skills. One of the main benefits of working with a real estate agent is saving time. You don’t need to know everything about buying real estate when you hire a real estate agent, and you won’t need to handle the volumes of paperwork that come with buying a house! You get peace-of-mind, knowing that all details are being handled in a professional and efficient manner.
Things to keep in mind during your search
- Location, location, location! Where do you and your family spend the most time? Where are your favorite shops, places to eat and things to do? Think about school districts, recreational areas, and crime stats.
- Get pre-approved. Meet with a lender to determine what type of loan works best for you. This step gives you great buying power, too. It shows a seller you are serious, prepared to make a move and have the money to do so.
- Rank your priorities…and prepare to compromise! What are the can’t-live-without items your next house needs to have? A large backyard? Open concept? 4 bedrooms? If you are making this decision with your spouse, make your lists separately and then compare. Decide which items are musts and which are optional.
- Commit to working with an agent. A strong buyer’s agent will fight for you, keep your best interest in mind and be available when you need them.
